About Canal Winchester

Canal Winchester, established in 1828, was a major hub of the Ohio and Erie Canal system, one of the most important canals in Ohio. It was also considered important due to its location between Lancaster and Columbus. Away from the city and surrounded by acres of open land, this thriving historic town has loads of events throughout the year, including art shows, parades, canal boat races, festivals and farmers’ markets.

Canal Winchester has the only remaining wooden covered bridge in the area. It is a fast-growing community with a golf course, new housing developments, shopping malls, hotels and restaurants. It is considered a “white-collar” village, with over 80% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs. Its large population of college educated adults helps to provide support in academics in the districts five schools.

Situated along state route 33, it is minutes from I-270 and 25 minutes from downtown Columbus
