Galena Real Estate
About Galena
Galena was established in 1809 at the junction of Big and Little Walnut Creeks. It was first named Zoar, but because Ohio had another town of that name, it was changed to Galena. It has retained the small village feel. Several buildings built in the 1800s still stand in the village square.
Also, in the square is the historic Galena Vault, formerly the town bank, built in 1906. It boasts many of its original features and now provides a venue for artists and craftspeople to display their work.
Galena is located at the mouth of Hoover Reservoir, providing acres of water, with fishing and boating areas. Surrounding the area are parks and the Hoover Nature Preserve. The area is classified as an important birding area. Along with numerous parks and walking trails, there are opportunities for special events, including summer camps and a concert series. Several restaurants and casual dining opportunities are available. Housing is abundant with beautiful subdivisions in the area.
There are three highly rated K-12 schools in Galena, belonging to two districts, Big Walnut Local School District and Olentangy Local School District. Small town living with big town convenience—the Polaris Mall is just eight miles away and Galena is 23 miles from downtown Columbus.
